Following the successful introduction of biodegradable plastic into our supply chain in May 2018 with a selection of plastic eggcups, we are excited to announce we will be widening its reach by producing in excess of 200 products with BDP plastic.
The products made using BDP are naturally decomposable in landfill and recyclable.
With OUR constant passion to be at the forefront of innovation it is not surprising that we now look to increase our biodegradable plastics offering on our best selling plastic lines in 2019; covering in excess of 80% of our plastic gifting.
In May 2018, we became the first company in the world to bring BDP (naturally decomposing plastic) to the global gift trade by launching a range of giftware using Breakdown Plastic™ technology.
Breakdown Plastic’s organic additive, BDP™, is designed to be used in synthetic polymers to enhance the biodegradation of plastics in landfill, allowing microbes to consume the plastics in a matter of a few years instead of centuries or longer. Paladone products using BDP™ are home compostable, naturally decomposable in landfill and recyclable, making our products truly sustainable.
While the products will look, and feel exactly like their non-biodegradable predecessors, should consumers ever need to dispose of the new lines, natural breakdown will occur at an enhanced rate in landfill, in fact, we saw between 13.4% and 16.5% biodegradation in the BDP treated plastics after 30 days compared to just 0.1% biodegradation in the non-treated plastic (please see link to Test Certificates below) – that’s a 16,400% increase! The products ONLY breakdown when they are treated at landfill or placed in home composting, meaning the consumer experience, no matter how long the product is kept for, remains unaffected.
