Despite being hit by delays, fires and strikes, Disney is fully committed and determined to bring the live action Lilo & Stitch movie to our screens. And for good reason – the world loves Stitch!
According to the story, Stitch was originally the result of an experiment to create a super-powerful, indestructible and aggressive creature that can destroy whole planets. However he manages to escape his interplanetary exile and finds himself lost and alone on planet Earth (Hawaii to be exact). There he is adopted by a wayward young girl named Lilo and together they cause havoc, evade the aliens sent to recapture the little blue monster, and eventually… well, no spoilers.
Upon the first movie’s release, reception to Stitch was so positive that the feature became a box-office smash, was nominated for an Academy Award and spawned its own franchise. After the success of three sequel movies and three TV series’, Disney finally announced their intention to bestow the live-action version upon the world. Stitch’s enduring appeal has outlasted most of Disney’s other legacy characters due to his flawed nature which makes him more relatable than similar characters found in parallel franchises such as Monsters Inc. and The Incredibles.
