Disney Pixar’s Toy Story film series is one of the most loved in the world. Adored by critics and fans, adults and children, it’s one of the most iconic, memorable, and instantly recognisable franchises ever to hit our screens.
Following the adventures of some of cinema’s most popular animated characters, the Toy Story films are a constant source of fun, humour, twists, turns, and some truly wonderful storytelling. The animated films also have an all-star cast of actors, including two-time Academy Award Winning Tom Hanks as Sheriff Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and talented voice actors Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, and Don Rickles, as Rex, Hamm and Mr Potato Head respectively.
Combining this stellar cast with great writing, beautiful animation, and a delightful soundtrack written by country legend Randy Newman, you can see just why the original Toy Story was the first animated film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Following Woody and co, the Toy Story series has seen these living toys end up in a number of prickly situations. Whether they’re having to rescue Buzz from the crazed boy next door, save Woody from being sold to Japan, or escape from a concentration-camp style daycare centre under the prying eye of an evil teddybear, their adventures never cease to amaze.
20 years of joy and still going strong…
First hitting our screens in 1995 the original Toy Story film introduced us to lovable characters including Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Mr and Mrs Potato Head, Slinky, and Rex. Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 continued the series, being released in 1999 and 2010 respectively. Both sequels were equally popular, cementing the franchise’s place in the history books forever. And soon the next instalment in the series will be coming to the big screens, as it was recently announced that Toy Story 4 will be released in the summer of 2019.
With rumours swelling about the latest addition to the franchise, it’s believed that Toy Story 4 will follow the search for Bo Peep, who was noticeably absent from Toy Story 3 after having been ‘given away in a yard sale’. Speaking about the new film, which is still in production, Pixar’s Jim Morris called the movie “a very special and emotional love story”.
