We recently put together a battle of six of the greatest Marvel and DC superheroes and asked you to pick your favourite (results can be found here) and we’re back at it again, except this time we put six of the most notorious villains head to head. The poll is now closed and the results are in, so let’s see what happened when we set six comic book villains against each other and let you pick the outcome.

Magneto

Main adversary of the X-men and leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants, Magneto is a powerful foe but it appears he couldn’t fight off the competition this time. Perhaps his overwhelming fondness for the leader of the x-men, Professor X, takes away from his evil ways or maybe it is something else. Either way Magneto still remains a much-loved character but this time the competition was too much.

General Zod

A kryptonian with a cold and merciless determination and thirst for power, Zod is a powerful foe. However, he couldn’t see off most of the competition this time but being the nemesis of Superman I think we can say he’s suffered greater defeats. Ranking joint third in this poll, we can still safely say there is some love for Zod and he surely is fan favourite to many.

Lex Luthor

The second enemy of the hero poll winner, Superman, Lex Luthor ties with Zod. In joint third, it looks as if the enemies of Superman draw a similar sized fan base. Loved by many for his enormous intellect and cruel calculating mind, Luthor has been a popular character in the comics for years and we are sure he will continue to for a long time to come.

Doctor Octopus

Spider-Man seems to have more arch enemies than anyone else but Doctor octopus is certainly one of them. Original leader and founder of the sinister six, Doc Ock’s calculating mind and devastatingly powerful mechanical arms have proven to be popular with fans, earning the character a role as lead villain in 2004s Spider-Man 2 and countless appearances in the comic books and various animated shows.

Loki

Best known from his appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki has grown his fan base exponentially in recent years. Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of the character has been given particular notoriety for increasing the characters appeal with the female audience. Atop of this, famous scenes such as Loki being pounded into the ground by Hulk in 2012’s The Avengers have given the character large scale exposure – even if it was through memes onFacebook.

Joker

Unsurprisingly the clown prince of crime takes the crown as most loved comic book villain. He is DC’s main manas far as villains go and has had a huge audience longer than some of the other villains on this list have existed. More recent incarnations of the character have significantly expanded The Jokers fan base. Whilst Jared Leto’s portrayal of the villain was subject to criticism by many, Heath Ledger’s Joker in Batman: The dark knight and Mark Hamills voice acting for the character in Batman: The Animated Series have both received an almost unanimous vote of approval by a large and loyal fan base.
