Friday the 30th June saw Paladone hold it’s annual sports day event in the grounds of Buckingham Park in Shoreham-by-Sea. The sports day is arranged every year by a group of volunteer staff forming Paladone’s own sports and wellbeing committee. The team organise sporting and fitness activities for the whole company and provide lots of added opportunity for staff to socialise and it is what makes Paladone truly a great place to work.

The chosen theme for this year’s event was Villains vs Superheroes!

We started the day by holding a company meeting to update all of our staff on the company successes, goals, visions and targets. Shortly afterwards everyone changed into their team costumes! Each team were led by a Manager or Director and each one had chosen their team names in advance.

On the Villains side: *Pirates of the Palabian, HM Prison Paladone, Fun Loving Criminals, Professors of Pain

On the Heroes side: * Team Xtreme, Rainbow warriors, wRappers, Meeksie’s Marvels

Groups of Villains and Heroes all made their way to the park where the big contest began! Each team played in each of the 4 zones with 30 minute rounds playing Human Table Football, Inflatable Volleyball & Dodgeball, Inflatable Obstacle Course and Inflatable Horses (sweetly named Dobby vs Carrotsticks), with a good few mental and co-ordination challenges in between.

After fierce competition, Team Xtreme on the Heroes side won the competition, however the overall grand winners were the villains just pipping the heroes to the post. Their victory allowed the Villains to blast the Heroes with water bombs and water pistols resulting in a mass water fight between the two teams!

The best dressed team were the wRappers who had spent hours making their costumes by hand!!! All team members were cleverly dressed as chocolates from the Miniature Heroes Selection Box.

At the end of the games, all winners received their medals and chocolates before pizzas and beers arrived for everyone to enjoy before everyone then headed off to a local pub to continue the hilarity into the night.

There were a few aching bones for the next few days but everyone felt it was the best sports day ever and for new starters it was a great welcome to the company where they got to meet and compete against their new colleagues.
